Introduction
Do you like dealing tons of damage in the frontline?
Do you like going GOD-MODE and UNSTOPPABLE?
You have come to the right place!
That's right, Freya! She is my favorite fighter in game. Unfortunately, she is fairly underrated for some reasons. Freya is a fighter who can deal massive damage to their entire team when played correctly, and we are going to show you how! Below, you will find us explaining the lore, abilities, items choices, battle spells, good allies to pair with, and more!
Lore
In the far northern reaches of Nost Gal, there is a legend: When a warrior dies on the battlefield, the goddess of war Freya will come down from heaven, kiss the spirit of the fallen, and lead it to the Temple of Heroes, where former warriors can have a new life. Freya herself is an outstanding warrior. She can both attack and defend with her sword and shield, and at a critical moment in battle she can transform into a halberd and smash the enemy formation.
Abilities
TL;DR Simple Initiating Combo – Stack Spirit Contact > Godspeed Strike > Wings of Faith > Valkyrie > Start to smash enemies with your basic attack
Spirit Contact (Passive): Generates a sacred shield surrounding the hero after every 2nd basic attack. When it is stacked 3 times, it will activate the sacred shield accelerator, dealing damage to any enemy that it hits. (Has no effect on minions)
-This skill can be very useful in early games, it actually deals a lot more damage when it is stacked 3 times.
-Always make sure you are fully stacked before engage a battle.
Wings of Faith: Jump into a target area, dealing physical damage to enemies in the area and pulling the enemies to the middle.
-This ability is your only utility, you can jump through walls to chase or run away from your enemies.
-Do not use this ability if your enemy is in your attacking range, only use it when you needed to initiate a teamfight or chase down an enemy.
-Learn to use manual casting on this ability! It's important!
-Whenever the enemies are being pulled by this ability, they are unable to move or use skills for a short moment.
-One of the best initiating abilities as it can actually combo with many heroes. (and even yourself! Hint: Godspe…..Stri…)
Godspeed Strike: Enhances the attack speed of first 3 basic attacks within 5s. Attack #3 will stun targets in a forward fan-shaped area and deal additional physical damage to them.
-This is your main bread and butter ability, always max this skill first!
-Your cooldown starts to refresh whenever you pressed it, even without attacking first, so use Godspeed Strike before initiating with Wings of Faith! It has extremely short cooldown when max-leveled as well!
-This ability can stun in a small-fan shaped area! Position well to make use of your stun for multiple targets!
Valkyrie (Ultimate): Enters Valkyrie mode, dealing physical damage to surrounding enemies and slowing them down. Meantime, the hero's physical attack, armor and magic resistances increases.
-The most badass ability in all time
-Valkyrie enables Freya to turn "God-mode" and cleaves through the enemies, turns tanky and more damage.
-While on valkyrie, it enhances Freya's basic attack range.
-Make sure to use this skill all the time whenever initiating a teamfight! (Don't forget to stand near your enemies too, valkyrie itself deals decent amount of damage in an small area whenever casted)
Items
The "Freya Guide" item build is by far, the best item build I've ever played. It is the most standard and powerful in most situations, jack of all trades build. Below you will find me explaining these items, why pick them?
Core Items
Tooth of Greed: +70 Physical Attack, 20% Lifesteal with Unique Passive-Insanity:When HP drops below 40%, the hero will receive an extra 10% physical lifesteal!
Tooth of Greed will be your first main core item no matter happens. It provides almost everything you need in the early game, survivability and damage. The lifesteal is crazy in the mid-late game when you hit multiple targets! This item also will give you the chance 1v2/3 :P
Blade of Destruction: +70 Physical Attack, +20% Critical Strike Chance, +50% Crit Damage with Unique Passive-Doom: Crit strikes will increase one's physical attack 5%, lasting 2s!
This item is just way TOOOOOOOOOO amazing for Freya. Tons of damage! I enjoyed myself too much watching the crazy critical strikes damage. I would recommend to buy this item right after your Tooth of Greed and boots. I will explain more about boots later on.
Scarlet Phantom: +30 Physical Attack, +40% Attack Speed, +10% Critical Strike Chance with Unique Passive-Frenzy: Crit strikes will increase the hero's attack speed by 35% and crit strike rate 5%, lasting 2s.
This is a MUST-BUY item whenever you have Blade of Destruction on Freya. Both of these items, Scarlet Phantom and Blade of Destruction works way too powerful with each other on Freya. Small physical attack bonus, UP TO 75% ATTACK SPEED and 15% critical strike chances!
Tooth of Greed, Blade of Destruction, Scarlet Phantom
These three items will work wonders till the end of the game. Freya might feel slightly weak in the early games, but whenever you have these items, you will go GODLIKE and become a killing machine. These items will bring huge powerspike, huge boost and game changing to Freya , so better start trying to farm gold quickly to get these items!
Situational Items:
Blade of Despair: +130 Physical Attack, +25% Attack Speed, +10% Critical Strike Chance with Unique Passive-Despair: Deals an extra 10% damage to an enemy in any abnormal state (stunned, knocked airborne, transformed, disabled)
HUGE physical attack boost, some attack speed and critical strike chance boost to Freya which makes her more of a threat and more damage! MORE DAMAGE = MORE DESTRUCTION! And a slight boost of 10% damage to abnormal targets, works well with Godspeed Strike on Freya.
Dominance Ice: +500 Mana, +70 Armor, +5% Crit Strike Rate Reduction, +15% Cooldown with Unique Passive-Arctic Cold: Lowers movement speed 5% and lowers attack speed 30% for nearby enemy heroes.
This is a very useful defensive item for Freya. It lowers attack speed and crit strike rate against marksman, which is very helpful so you don't get shredded down in seconds. The mana bonus isn't a huge thing for Freya but it helps a little to sustain a longer teamfight. 15% cooldown helps with your skills as well! Buy this whenever enemy marksman is strong.
Immortality: +800 HP, +40 Magic Resistance with Unique Passive-Rebirth: Resurrect 2s after dying and get 15% HP and a shield that can absorb 600-2000 pts of damage. Shield lasts for 3s. Cooldown for this effect is 180s.
The only reason we buy this item is mainly because of it's Unique Passive: Resurrect. It works very well together with Tooth of Greed as it triggers the Unique Passive-Insanity after resurrection. Some bonus HP and Magic Resistance against mages.
Fallen Sword: +45 Physical Attack, +30% Attack Speed, +10% Lifesteal with Unique Passive-Devour: Basic attacks will deal 8% of the target's current HP as additional physical damage (up to 60 against monsters).
Fallen Sword is an great item, but personally I don't like it on Freya. Only buy it when against lots of high hp enemies.
Wind Chaser: +60 Physical Attack with +40% Physical Penetration
Buy this only against enemies with lots of armor but I wouldn't recommend buying otherwise, you have enough damage with the core items.
Demon's Advent: +920 HP, + 54 Armor with Unique Passive-Deter: When an enemy hero attacks, this ability will reduce his/her attack power by 6%. This effect lasts 2s and can stack up to 3 times.
This item specialize in against heavy physical attack team. Sell Immortality and buy this item whenever the Unique Passive-Rebirth is on cooldown.
Saint's Refuge: +900 HP, +56 Magic Resistance with Unique Passive-Refuge: Every 30s, get one shield that can absorb 450~1150 damage. (Shield effect increases as the battle goes on.)
Good shield and HP bonus but I wouldn't recommend buying unless against heavy mages team.
Boots:
Warrior Boots: +22 Armor, +40 Movement Speed with Unique Passive-Valor: Physical defense will go up 3 with each basic attack received, for an increase for up to 15 points, lasting 3s.
Overall the best boots on Freya, it makes you tanky enough for the early-mid game and it is very cheap too for such bonuses too!
Swift Boots: +15% Attack Speed, +40 Movement Speed
Freya have more than enough attack speed from Scarlet Phantom, do not need these unless your team have healers, heavy tanks already. Not recommended.
Other boots are not much of a use and, they are just too expensive that it slows down your powerspike.
Battle Spells
Purify is nerfed, but still the best on Freya. You have to improve your reaction timing though! Use this immediately after got heavility CC'ed by enemy team. Good for both offensive and defensive.
Flicker works well on Freya too, not the best but it will get the job done. You can use flicker if you didn't like purify much.
Good Allies to Team-Up with:
Estes: Good heals, it almost makes you impossible to kill. Has slow to help you take down your enemies.
Tigreal: Would you be surprised if I said Tigreal could be one of the best allies for Freya? Tigreal flickers + ultimate, Freya jumps in and cleaves the enemy team of all eternity.
Rafaela: Her heals aren't good as Estes, but Rafaela has an wide AOE ultimate stun. Works well with Freya's Wings of Faith.
Best skin for Freya?
Definitely Dark Rose.
I have been using this skin for a moment, and I loved it!
It's cheap, +8 physical attack for boost in early games. And also it supports the developers to make the game better! So why not? :) chuckles
Emblem Sets and In-Game Settings:
My favorite emblem set is Physical Assassin Set
(This is my new alternate's account emblem set)
It gives almost every stats that Freya needed. Physical penetration, physical attack, critical strike chance, HP, movement speed and cooldown reduction.
Other good emblem sets are Physical Emblem Set and Jungle Emblem Set. Use whichever emblem set that it is the highest level if you have a upgraded ones.
In-Game Settings
What is Hero Lock Mode? Why should I turn it on?
Hero lock mode actually helps a lot in teamfight especially when it gets messy. You can select your targets beside your skill bars. In that case, you can select the major targets such as the mages and marksmen. Taking down their carries would give big advantages to your team. Gotta get used it tho! and I have to admit, sometimes I forgot to select the targets too :P
In-Game Tips:
Early Game
It is NOT NECESSARY to initiate teamfights in lane, try not to unless you are 100% sure that you could beat the enemy. You will be fairly weak in the early game so try to avoid any disadvantages. Farms up quickly from lane > jungle > repeat until you have your core items. But of course, help your team whenever they are in trouble! Avoid roaming and ganking as Freya, it is not worth the time spent. Only ganks/roam whenever you have nothing to do, for example, you have done clearing your lane minions and jungle monsters. You can try to go to your nearest allies and help them out with their laning, if possible try to get some kills. You will be very powerful when you have your core items which is Tooth of Greed, Boots, Blade of Destruction and Scarlet Phantom.
Mid Game
As the game goes to mid-game, start helping your team. Do not farm gold in a lonely lane and get caught by the enemy team. Look at the map every few seconds(Not just mid-game but the entire game!). If the enemies are missing from the map and you are far too deep in their side of the base, you should be careful. Take objectives such as Turtles, Lord and turrets.
Late Game
Every move in late game is crucial. A mistake could lead to a horrible defeat. Do not get caught. Initiating a perfect teamfight is the key to victory. Stick together with your team, do not simply jump in with Wings of Faith if your team is fall behind or out of positioning, it would be Wings of Death, R.I.P. If your team have heavy CC such as Tigreal, Alice, Rafaela, etc. You can follow-up with their ultimates and get a clean ace. Otherwise, you can try Wings of Faith into their backline(mages and marksmen) to try take them down in a few deadly critical strikes.
Weaknesses
Freya can get countered easily by Natalia which is a bad thing :(
Karina could be a pain in the … too! (You know what I mean!)
And of course, heavy crowd controls could stop you. (Improve your purifying reaction!)
Summary
Just have fun! Be patient, don’t stressed out, take a break whenever you are tired, do not forced yourself. Give it some time for understanding the game and training, you can be a good Freya player! Once you mastered Freya, you could climb ranks easily! I have a blast writing this guide and with Freya. I hope you guys enjoyed reading and helped you out too! Peace.
